What incredible control we have given technology platforms. I have been de-platformed from so many spaces for violating what they call “spam” guidelines.

This is, most certainly, the result of the enshittification process. Platforms do not want anyone talking about their work because they want to force us to pay them to advertise what you do. To promote what we do. To promote our ideas.

But then my question is; why would I want to be on a platform if I can’t talk about my work? If I can’t talk about my passions. If I can’t talk about what I’m doing. What I’m building. Am I supposed to only talk about the Kardashians? Or whatever bullshit is the current distraction.

My latest excommunication was from Substack. And I have absolutely no idea why. Apparently the algorithm thought that I talked about community building way too much, or something? Which brings me to the crux of this conversation…

Why do we need their platforms if we can only talk about what they say we can talk about? Why do I want to talk about what a tech company wants me to talk about?

I want to talk about what I want to talk about. And if I can’t do it on the big platforms, I can just build my own. And maybe it’s time we boycott the large platforms en masse.

The control that is being exerted over our lives is terrifying. Control, not only by tech platforms, but by virtually everyone and everything in any position of authority.

We’ve been hemmed in so tightly and driven like cattle down the chute toward the slaughter of our creative freedom.

So, if you have an original thought, it seems clear that you’re going to have to find your own original place to express it. The cookie cutter platforms allow only cookie cutter thinking that is approved by the grand algorithm of compliance.

I guess that’s why so many homeless people stand there talking to themselves; they’ve been banned from expressing original thoughts on social media and now have nothing left but an audience of one.
