BEIRUT (AP) — An Israeli airstrike killed an elite Hezbollah commander Monday in southern Lebanon, the latest in an escalating exchange of strikes along the border that have raised fears of another Mideast war even as the fighting in Gaza exacts a mounting toll on civilians.

The strike on an SUV killed a commander in a secretive Hezbollah force that operates along the border, according to a Lebanese security official who spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with regulations. Hezbollah identified the slain fighter as Wissam al-Tawil without providing details.

He is the most senior militant in the armed group killed since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack into southern Israel triggered all-out war in Gaza and lower-intensity fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, which has escalated since an Israeli strike killed a senior Hamas leader last week in Beirut.

BEIRUT/AMMAN, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Israel is carrying out an unprecedented wave of deadly strikes in Syria targeting cargo trucks, infrastructure and people involved in Iran's weapons lifeline to its proxies in the region, six sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

The sources, including a Syrian military intelligence officer and a commander in the regional alliance backing Damascus, said Israel had shifted strategies following the Oct. 7 rampage by Hamas fighters into Israeli territory and the ensuing Israeli bombing campaigns in Gaza and Lebanon.

The IDF said the weapons production site, which was located inside a 100-meter (328-foot) tunnel that was used by Hamas terrorists to produce precision guidance components to integrate into rockets, based on technological knowledge gained from Iran.

COSCO Halts All Shipments to/From Israel (HalTurner)

China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO), which controls 5.2% of global ocean shipping capacity, announced today it is HALTING all shipments to and from Israel due to hazards transiting the Red Sea.

Vessels transiting the Red Sea are in great danger of late since the group Ansar Allah, which represents the Houthis in the country of Yemen, have imposed a naval blockade of all vessels shipping products to or from Israel, on account of the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The Houthis have made clear that unless Israel halts its military attacks, wherein they use Fighter Jets to drop 2,000 pound bombs on Apartment buildings, homes, schools, hospitals, Mosques, churches, and refugee camps, which has resulted in more than twenty-one thousands dead Palestinian civilians (60% being women and children), no ship traveling to or from Israel will be allowed to pass in the Red Sea.

Ron DeSantis dismisses poll predicting violence from losing side of 2024 election (WashExam)

Americans who consider the wave of illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border a “crisis” has increased in recent months as the problem has escalated, a new poll shows.

A CBS News/YouGov poll released Sunday found that 45% of Americans call the situation a “crisis,” up from 38% in May. Thirty percent said it is “very serious,” 18% “somewhat serious” and 7% “not much of a problem.”
